POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES
The Department of Environmental Control Technology, with programs in Facilities Management, Sustainable Technologies, and Heating and Air Conditioning, is seeking qualified candidates to teach courses in these areas at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, depending upon qualifications and experience. The curricula include theory, design and laboratory classes which impart both the technical knowledge and “can do” confidence that enable our graduates to find financially and personally rewarding employment. Critical to maintaining this success are faculty with a willingness and ability to develop academic and technical skills beyond those of a traditional engineering or architectural education.
We are advancing our curriculum to more fully address emerging practices such as LEED, sustainability, and alternative energy systems and will be increasing our research activity so as to utilize our technical expertise and role in New York City’s HVAC and Facilities Management industries to improve the economic viability and acceptance of new technologies. In partnership with other departments, Environmental Control Technology is performing applied research and developing new laboratory and instructional capacity in such areas as alternative energy systems, BIM, and modeling and sensing technologies. This is an opportunity to make a difference: to industry, by developing solutions to complex design and operational issues through applied research; to our students, by providing them the opportunity to benefit from knowledge and experience; and to themselves, by contributing to the vision and development of this unique program.
This is a full-time, tenure track position. Faculty members are responsible for the planning, preparation, and presentation of quality instruction. In addition, faculty members participate in department activities including curriculum development, academic advisement, and recruitment. Teaching assignments may include day, evening and weekend classes.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A PhD in a closely related field is highly desirable and is the preferred qualification for an appointment as assistant professor. However, candidates with significant industry experience who hold a Master's degree and Professional Registration in Engineering or Architecture will be considered. Successful candidates should have practical experience in mechanical system design and facilities management or theoretical experience in fluid flow, heat transfer, thermodynamics, or energy calculations related to building mechanical systems. Preference will be given to candidates who have a strong record in teaching combined with industry experience. The successful candidate is also expected to pursue scholarly activities at a level appropriate to Engineering Technology and should have a strong interest in performing applied research in the field.
